January Newsletter – Follow the Leader

Brrrr! It’s Cold!

We welcome you all into 2024 and hope that you had a great holiday period! Hopefully Santa brought you want you wanted, and you are now not too tired of eating Turkey.

As you can see from the images above, it is currently minus forty degrees here at our Canadian office. Whether you measure in Celsius or Fahrenheit, it’s forty below and believe me it is so cold even the snowmen are wrapping up in thermals! Looking at the weather reports, it is probably looking a little challenging where you are too, so the perfect time to go to the model room and have some quality train time.

Wrap up warm, stay indoors and settle in to read the January newsletter!

Leading the Production

This month the Leader models are well on in their production. As you can see from the photographs, our factory has completed the bodies and these are waiting for final assembly of the chassis and internal electronics. We have been working closely with ESU to make sure that the internal circuit boards perform as we want with the ESU LokSound V5 decoders.

Once all the parts are made and ready, it is on to final assembly and we hope it is not long now until the models will be on their way to our warehouse and on to all of our customers who have placed orders for these.

There is still time to get your order in. The Leader will be available in prototype grey with and without crest, BR black with early crest, BR green with late crest, and BR Rail Blue.

All versions are available DCC ready, DCC Fitted, and DCC sound fitted.

BR Class 40 ‘Whistler’ Pre-orders Strong!

BR class 40 in green half yellow ends

Since we announced our all-new tooled class 40 project, demand for models has been strong. Amongst the livery options being offered, D326 is nearly sold out to pre-order. This model has never been offered before RTR, so don’t delay and order yours today if this is a must-have item for you.

BR class 40 in Rail Blue with TOPS

Other livery options are also proving popular so we do advise pre-ordering to avoid disappointment. Despite naysayers and the Fun Police kicking up a fuss over what-if liveries being offered to modellers, the Regional Railways and EWS versions are gathering strong support, just as our what-if GT3 liveries did before.

It proves that if you like it, then why not buy it? Had the class 40s continued in service then Regional Railways would have been a definite possibility for those left in service, providing variety to the RR adorned class 31 and 37 fleets. Keep the hobby fun, and run what YOU want!

Our two-truck Shay is nearly finished in production

Production of our two-truck Shay is nearing completion at our factory. With the logging cars finished and shipped they have been able to concentrate on production of these models and we are still expecting a Q1 release date this year.

The Shay locomotive was the most widely used geared steam locomotive. The locomotives were built to the patents of Ephraim Shay, who has been credited with the popularization of the concept of a geared steam locomotive. Our representation of the Shay is a generic 50-ton 2-truck Shay. Several thousand were built over the course of construction, with a number surviving at museums and preserved railroads where they can be seen in action. We recommend taking a look at the Cass Scenic Railroad if you would like to learn more.

These behemoths of a locomotive are the perfect partner to our logging cars! Models are available in six different road names/numbers plus undecorated so you can create your own Lumber Railroad identity.
